the ideas, inspiration and motivation behind our band

History:
In November 2001, the foundations for what is now known as syzygy were laid. Mark finally bought his bass in October 2001 to join with Will returning to playing guitar after a few years break. Original material was immature but has been adapted and can still be heard in new material. Name finding became our first problem and we originally named ourselves Glass Eye but soon discoverd an Australian band with the same name and so the search went on. Eventually one late night of thinking and drinking; Mark browsing a particularly large dictionary found the word Syzygy and that was that.
After a few months a singer was found in the form of Dave Divly Harris and due to Dave's increasingly full agenda no practises with the three were formulated and the project was put on hold until college.
Once at college the search was on for a drummer, signs were put up around college, promptly taken down by the suits in control and the search looked endless. One fateful day Mark was on a train home with a suggestion from Owen Devine to ask a friend Josh Brown to play the drums and with a little persuasion Josh obliged, and the three became a four piece band.
Practises promptly started thanks again to Josh giving us a place to practice and a will to write some material, with still no appearances from the estranged singer Dave.
Eventually the band could no longer handle the lack of commitment and enthusiasm from Dave and he soon was mutually removed from the band.
And so to present day the band practises once a week writing some quality material in a variety of songs and we shall continue to improve until we are ready to release Syzygy to the rest of the world.

Sound:
Syzygy don't have a particular style we keep in, we don't lock ourselves in a "punk" or "rock" box and throw away the key. But obviously that doesn't help describe our sound. At the moment we don't have a singer so the material that's being produced is written purely instrumentally, which is no bad thing. We have some really hard stuff and also some really chilled slow stuff, but our main style and probably the style we will play most live in gigs is our own brand of funk/punk/rock (ideas for a name please). The bands that have influenced our style most are probably Led Zeppelin, Rage Against the Machine and most recently Audioslave. Most material at the moment comes straight out of jam sessions on practice nights, a lot of which gets ditched because we can't build it together, but we are putting together a fairly solid repertoire of songs. The typical syzygy song has supremely funky bass riff, hard guitar over the top and funked up beats to complete the sound. Often a solo gets added in just for the hell of it. Why not?
Our style is getting better all the time, with new stuff being written daily, so come see us live and check us out. Also, if you happen to be a crazy singer please get in contact.
